I have had a love affair with horses and art for as long as I can remember. Growing up in the big city of Toronto proved challenging for someone with a passion for horses. I was one of those horse-crazy girl’s who got up at 4 in the morning and took a night streetcar across Toronto to Yonge St., took the night bus north to Thornhill, changed to another bus and got off at Richmond Hill and walked two miles to the stable where I rode, to be there in time to feed at 7 am.

This passion for the horse showed up early in my childhood. My mother kept my first attempt at oil painting, which won a 2nd place ribbon at a school competition, and it is my most prized possession. I was six years old.

I worked with horses for many years and in a variety of disciplines. I always had great sympathy for the under-dogs… the nervous or scared animals that didn’t always have a good start in life. I enjoyed the challenge of gaining their trust and watching them blossom into confident, balanced individuals. My horse Coal, was one of them. He was with me for 20 years, bless him.

Of course every farm had a dog, and usually a few cats, chickens and goats, who are also fabulous subjects for painting. I love farm buildings with all that peeling paint, rusty metal and weathered barn boards.
